Accessibility statement

Our commitment

CommunATI is built for STEM programs and the families they serve. Accessibility is a baseline requirement, not a polish item. We commit to conforming to WCAG 2.1 Level AA across every user-facing page, with the explicit aim of aligning with:

  • Accessible Canada Act (federal)
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
  • Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA)
  • BC Accessible British Columbia Act, NS & NB Accessibility Acts
  • Quebec Loi 25 accessibility provisions

Built-in accessibility features

  • Semantic HTML landmarks (<main>, <nav>,<header>) on every page
  • ARIA labels on icon-only links and buttons
  • Focus-visible rings on every interactive element
  • Keyboard-navigable through every flow
  • Screen-reader announcements for loading + error states
  • Color choices target 4.5:1 contrast minimum (WCAG AA body text)
  • No content depends on hover or pointer-only interaction
  • Forms have proper <label> associations + error announcements via aria-describedby

Known limitations

We're tracking these issues and welcome reports of others. As of our last audit (2026-05-29):

  • Some secondary text uses a color combination that falls below 4.5:1 contrast. Fix planned for the next color-token refresh.
  • A small number of icon-only buttons in legacy components have a label mismatch flagged by automated tools.
  • French translations are scaffolded but not yet community-reviewed. English content is authoritative until a bilingual pass completes.
  • Mobile screen-reader testing (VoiceOver iOS, TalkBack Android) is pending a dedicated audit pass before public launch.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on CommunATI — anything that prevents you from completing a task, no matter how small — please reach out.

We acknowledge every report within 5 business days and prioritize fixes against the WCAG severity scale. Critical barriers (blocks signup, sign-in, payment) get addressed within 2 business days.

Alternate formats

We will provide CommunATI content in alternate accessible formats on request (plain text, large print, audio recording where applicable). Email accessibility@communati.cawith what you need.
